Drones, Satellites, Other Techs Featured On NSTW
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) or commonly called drones and space technology are among the many gadgets and technologies that will be exhibited during the Mindanao leg of the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW).
The Mindanao NSTW will be held July 6 to 8 at the SMX Convention Center in SM Lanang, Davao City.
“This will be bigger than the previous Mindanao NSTW celebrations, as the technologies to be featured will be double than last year,” Department of Science and Technology-XI Regional Director Anthony C. Sales said during his guesting at the Kapehan sa SM.
Sales said there are about 80 to 100 technologies which will be presented at the 2018 NSTW, previous NSTWs had about 40 to 50 technologies.
Among the highlights of the NSTW is the presentation of the country’s inroads in space science.
“We will be presenting space technology including the satellite technology, with the largest receiving station here in Davao, which will start construction before the year ends.” Sales said.
Also those interested in drones will have their field day at the exhibit in SMX. Sales said they will be showing UAVs which are used in surveillance and reports assessment.
Other technologies at the NSTW include the solar-powered starbooks which are used in remote schools and vertical helophyte filters which is a biological treatment for wastewater.
The three-day event bears the theme, “Science for the People of Mindanao: Innovation for Collective Prosperity”, it shows to the public the capability of science experts and hopes to inspire the youth and other sectors in patronizing local technology.
The event also aims to highlight the contribution of science and technology (S&T) to national development and to the lives of the Filipino people.
Sales said they are expecting President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to visit the event. (RGA/PIA-Davao)
