Apple to Launch Apple Books in 2018
Apple declared that it will be launching a new and improved reading app called Apple Books later this year.
Apple Books was previewed in early June at San Jose, California during the Worldwide Developers Conference.
Developed to make reading and book-browsing more effortless and engaging, “Apple Books will inspire a love of reading — it puts a world of books and audiobooks right at your fingertips, whether you want to dive into your favorite story for a couple of minutes or a few hours,” as Apple Senior Vice President of Internet Software & Services Eddy Cue elaborated.
The all-new app has a simple interface with hefty tabs and features.
The Reading Now tab displays the books you are reading or listening to at current. Under this tab is the Want to Read feature which handily keeps a wishlist of books that you want, and the Complete the Series or You Might Like feature which suggests books for you to read based on the ones you freshly finished.
For the first time, Apple Books also has an Audiobooks tab. The rationale behind this is it makes it easier for one to listen to books indoors or outdoors. It may even be playable in the car via CarPlay.
The Book Store tab on the other hand helps one conveniently browse through everything that the app has to offer including but not limited to: Top Charts, Editorial Collections, Staff Picks, and Special Offers & Free. With a new design and personalized recommendations, it aims to make reading fun and accessible for everyone.
The Book Store will be available in a total of 51 countries, while free books will be available in 155 countries.
In addition, Apple Books offers a Library tab where you can look back at your full compendium of books with large and visible cover art. It even includes a Finished section which displays the books you have read in a timeline.
Apart from that, the app also has the functional Search tab.
Cue opens, “This is our biggest books redesign ever, and we hope this beautiful app inspires both customers and authors alike.”
The app is to replace iBooks and is to be released this fall with the launch of iOS 12.
It will be accessible to both iPad and iPhone users. (Adapted by Lara Angeli Eviota)
