Davide Urges New Village, SK Execs to Give Genuine Service to Constituents

Public office is a high calling that not all people are given a chance to serve.

With bad politics as the root of divisiveness in governance, Gov. Hilario P. Davide III urged newly elected Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials in the four towns of southern Cebu to cast away with it, work together for the betterment of all and make good use of their mandate to help their constituents.

“Being at the frontline is a tough job. You are elected because the people put their faith and trust in you. Not all of us are given the chance to serve, so make sure you repay it with genuine service,” Davide told the newly elected Barangay and SK officials during the oath-taking ceremony last Monday.

At least 895 Barangay and SK officials were sworn in to office by Davide in the towns of Dumanjug, Ronda, Alcantara and Moalboal.

The ceremony was graced by Rep. Peter John Calderon of the seventh district and Provincial Board Members Jerome Librando and Christopher Baricuatro.

Municipal officials of each town were also present in the event, including Mayor Rene Asentista (Dumanjug), Mayor Mariano Blanco (Ronda) and Mayor Inocentes Cabaron (Moalboal).

Davide also encouraged SK officials to join the activities and programs of the Provincial Youth Commission as these would help them hasten their leadership skills and character.

Calderon, for his part, said that winning the elections is easier than actually running the village.

“Those who need assistance will go directly to you. And sometimes, you have to make do of the scarce resources you have. That’s why I salute your sacrifices,” Calderon said.

Calderon vowed that his office, together with the Provincial and Municipal governments, will do the best they can to help the programs and projects of the barangays.
