Acer Launches Liquid S1: a 5.7-inch Phablet
Acer has unveiled its Liquid S1 5.7-inch android smartphone. The quad-core powered handset sports an HD display with Android 4.2, 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of memory, 8GB of storage (expandable via microSD cards) and a 2,400mAh battery that lasts a full day (according to Acer).
Unique features in this phone on top of Android include “Float User Interface”. This feature brings up a “Float Apps” shortcut on a translucent screen float over the function being used. It is easy to access or switch Float Apps anytime. These apps include camera, maps, calculator and notes. A Float Caller notification ensures that users will not be interrupted by incoming calls that take over the full screen. When a call comes in, the Float Caller mini-window pops up and the user can choose to take the call or reply with a quick message.
The phone also comes with Automatic Profile, which lets users automatically change settings based on location. For example, the handset will know to activate silent mode during your daily meetings at work simply because you walked into the conference room.
This handset works with a front-facing camera with an 88-degree wide viewing angle, a 24mm lens, and button-less shooting – saying “cheese” will take a snap. Entertainment features include Studio Sound with DTS technology, live sharing with Acer’s 2-way Live Screen app, and HD streaming and playback for video and photo display.
The Liquid S1 will start shipping in Q3 2013 in France, Belgium, Netherlands, Ukraine, Russia, UK and Germany, followed by Spain and Italy with a starting price of €349. However, the Taiwanese company is tight-lipped regarding Liquid S1’s availability in Asian and other regions.
