DepEd Cited Overwhelming LGU Support to Brigada’s Success
Department of Education(DepEd)-7 Regional Director Dr. Carmelita Dulangon on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over the overwhelming support by the local government units, parents and other stakeholders making the implementation of Brigada Week successful.
In a Kapihan sa PIA and DYMR Forum held at Cebu Normal University, Dulangon was so thankful to all people who in one way or another contributed their labor, materials, foods, cash and everything to show their cooperation of the yearly activities spearheaded by DepEd.
The Brigada Eskwela Week, which started on May 19, 2014, will be extended and continued until all damaged classrooms will be repaired especially in the northern part of Cebu province and those areas affected by super typhoon Yolanda and a 7.2 earthquake last year.
Dulangon said that make shift classrooms are built in areas where repairs are still on going until June 2, the official opening on all classes of public elementary and high schools nationwide.
“June 2 class opening will not be extended and i’m already invited all teachers to come to school to encourage young students to attend classes, Dulangon said.
She even advised female school teachers to wear attractive shirt to encourage studnets to go to school.
Asked about the figures of this year’s Brigada participants in comparison with that of last year, Dulangon cited a big difference as far as figures of people who participated in this year’s Brigada activities than last year.
She said the heavy damage left by the earthquake and typhoon last year, was the main reason behind the big volume of workers who voluntarily participated the Brigada Eskwela this year than last year.
Dulangon explained that last year there were more than 744,000 people who participated the Brigada works which can be translated to more than P111 million in cash if their manual labor of hours and materials contributed in the program are to be counted upon. (With Press Release)
