JVR to COA: Sue Soc
Talisay City Mayor Johnny V. delos Reyes (JVR) has urged the Commission on Audit (COA) to file charges against his predecessor former Mayor Socrates Fernandez for alleged anomalies during his administration.
“Magsige sila og pangayo nako og explanation nganong until now wa gihapon naka-explain si Soc sa mga irregularities sa 2012. Dili man ko pwede maka-explain ana kay kang Soc na nga administration. Nganong di nila kasohan ang former mayor, naa man sila’y ebidensya,” said Delos Reyes.
State auditor Ma. Daisy Bercede recently sent a letter to Delos Reyes reminding the city government of COA’s recommendation to the city last year which have not been followed.
“Please be reminded that during the exit conference held last April 13, 2013 management committed to implement some of these recommendations immediately,” said Bercede. At least 13 alleged anomalies one of which is an unliquidated P18 million cash advances have remained unexplained, said Bercede. All transactions were made in 2012 during which time Fernandez was mayor.
Delos Reyes said he could not file a case against Fernandez, who is now city councilor, as it might be construed as “politically-motivated,” considering that the two of them are not allied.
The mayor said if COA is serious with its effort against illegal transactions, it should start filing cases against those behind these unscrupulous government officials.
