MCIA Wins Best Airport Under 5 Million Passengers Category in Asia

Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) added another award to its awards shelf when it won Routes Asia 2023 Marketing Award for the Under 5 Million Passenger Category.

MCIA received the award during the Routes Asia 2023 Marketing Awards held last February 15, 2023, in Chiang Mai, Thailand besting the other 200 airports in Asia Pacific in the same category.

In a press release from MCIA, the aviation networking firm, Routes Online, recognized MCIA’s recovery efforts in the aviation sector in Cebu.

“This recognition attests to our strong commitment to resume our pre-pandemic connectivity while we carry out our strategies in both airline and destination marketing. We also recognize the substantial contribution of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA), our airline partners, and other airport stakeholders that help sustain the demand and traffic for air connectivity in Cebu,” said Rafael Aboitiz, GMR MEGAWIDE Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) Director.

MCIA also said that they added new airline partners and new destinations in 2022, which greatly boosted the pre-pandemic traffic in Cebu, “domestic topping more than 80% of its pre-pandemic levels while international traffic also now kicking in at 36% as more countries ease restrictions.”

The latest addition of MCIA was the airline company Starlux which joined the MCIA fleet of available airlines in January 2023. (ASC)
