The Department of Health Region 7 announced on Monday that the number of firecracker-related injuries in Region 7 is down to 58% this year.

This comes after the DOH only recorded 10 cases this year compared to 24 in 2021.

According to DOH’s Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) as of December 26, 2022, there are 9 cases of firecracker-related injuries reported in Cebu Province.

Meanwhile, only one case was reported in Bohol.

DOH also reported the top causes of firecracker injuries in the region namely the kwitis, lantaka, flying tiger, and hotdog.

Through their “Oplan Iwas Paputok” campaign that was launched last December 13, DOH continues to remind the public to stay away from firecrackers and use alternative and safer ways to make noise, especially this coming new year. (ASC)
