Cebu City’s Heritage District in the Works
The Cebu City government plans to create a “Heritage District” transforming heritage sites in the parts of the city.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama assigned Vice Mayor Alvin Garcia to oversee the development of the city’s heritage sites.
The development includes beautifying heritage sites in the city, especially historical landmarks, streets, monuments, shrines, etc.
Unlike other cities in the country, Cebu City doesn’t have popular beaches that become the anchor point of tourism.
Vice Mayor Garcia said that the city has a lot of historical landmarks, which will be the city’s way of attracting tourists from around the world.
“We don’t have beaches, but we have a lot of historical sites and we have to maximize our presence as a heritage district,” said Garcia.
Garcia added that Cebu City’s rich heritage will be the focal point of the city’s tourism.
This project is in line with the city government’s goal to make Cebu City a “Singapore-like” city.
Cebu City Vice Mayor Alvin Garcia is also the Cebu City Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission (CHAC). (ASC)
