Public Transport Support Eyed in Cebu City
Due to the recent increase in fuel prices in the country, the Cebu City government is eyeing for fuel subsidy for the public transport sector in the city.
Cebu City Michael Rama expressed his support for the proposal of Cebu City Councilor James Cuenco, the head of the City Council’s Committee on Transportation.
Cuenco drafted the proposal to give subsidies to the public transport sector due to the recent increase in fuel prices caused by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
At least 2,000 PUJs in the city are said to benefit from the fuel subsidy.
If the proposal is approved, the city will purchase gasoline and diesel for PUJs in the city.
Meanwhile, Rama also plans to build an oil depot in the city to help mitigate the fuel prices in Cebu City.
