Teens, Kids in Shelter Homes Infected with COVID-19
Teens and children who are living in city-run shelter homes in Lapu-Lapu City and Cebu City got infected with COVID-19.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Ahong Chan reported the incident on his Facebook post saying that 32 of the children who were cared for in the Homecare Center for Children in the city got infected with COVID-19.
“Naguol ako sa atong pagkahibalo kaganiha nga 32 sa atong mga abandoned children sa atong Homecare Facility naigo sa COVID. Nakabati ko og dakong kahadlok kay ang COVID karon moigo na sa mga kabataan nga lahi sa miaging tuig,” Chan said in his Facebook post.
The said infection was found out after one of the children had undergone a swab test for his preparation to travel to Iloilo as he was already scheduled for release.
Abeth Cuizon who is the Officer-in-charge of the City Social Welfare and Development Office most of the infected children were asymptomatic while the others were exhibiting mild symptoms.
Shelter for Young Adults in Cebu City on Lockdown
A shelter run by a non-profit organization in Cebu City was placed in lockdown after 27 of their residents were found to be infected with COVID-19.
Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera said that the infected individuals were ages 15 to 20 years old.
The shelter, however, requested not to disclose their name said Garganera.
The occupants will stay in the shelter for the lockdown period, meanwhile, food packs and essentials will be delivered in the shelter, Garganera added. (ASC)
