Iligan City’s Kalayaan Job Fair 2019 Draws Job Seekers

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Iligan City Office, in partnership with the Youth Affairs Office-Iligan City Mayor’s Office (CMO), and in close coordination with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) has concluded its Independence Day celebration on June 12 with an event dubbed as Kalayaan Job Fair 2019 at the Robinson’s Place Atrium, this city.

Atty. Joffrey M. Suyao, DOLE-10 Regional Director, said that this annual Job Fair aims to fast-track the meeting of job seekers and employers and overseas recruitment agencies in one venue to reduce cost, time and effort for the applicants.

Atty. Suyao emphasized, we’re not just targeting to provide opportunities for unemployed Iliganons, but also those Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Marawi City.

This is a great opportunity for them to find their first jobs, and for change careers or career growth for those who have had their experience already,” he added.

While government line agencies like PhilHealth, PAG-Ibig, POEA and OWWA, including SSS were all in the area to provide assistance of the services they offered, especially for those first timers/ fresh graduates.

There were 4,000 job vacancies offered at the event; 1,500 jobs available for local employment and 2,500 for job overseas. There were 24 establishments for local employment while seven establishments for overseas.

A total of 549 applicants registered, 327 males and 222 females. Two male applicants were hired on the spot (HOTS).

CMO-Youth Affairs officer-in-charge, Jurimer C. Demecillo encouraged the fresh graduates and out-of-school youth to apply.

As the city celebrates its 69thAraw ng Iligan with the theme “Dakbayan sa Iligan, Garbo sa Atong Kaliwatan,” Demecillo urged the tri-people of Iligan (Higa-onon, Maranao, Christian) and undergraduates to take their chance in this activity.

Demecillo stressed, “Poverty is not a hindrance to one’s success. Be resourceful, continue to learn, and strive hard to make a living.”

Meanwhile, Dennis K.Tundag, a former overseas employee, is hoping for a local job through this event.

“When I started a family, it is very hard for me to go back abroad again. I want to be here with my kids as much as possible,” Tundag pointed out.
