5th ID Gives Military Honors to Soldier Killed-In-Action

The 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army (5ID, PA) gave military honor arrival honors to one of its soldiers who was killed- in- action in Sulu.

Col. ValeNtine Gironella, 5th ID assistant division commander, led the other soldiers in receiving the remains of Corporal Herald R. Marayag at Tactical Operations Group (TOG) – 2 hangar.

Marayag died during an encounter with members of Abu Sayyaf Rebel Group in Bungkaung, Patikul, Sulu on December 7.

Gironella extended condolences to the family left by Marayag and assured them that they will receive proper benefits and assistance from the government.

The army official hailed Marayag’s bravery for defending the state against internal threats to maintain peace and order in the country.

Major Jefferson Somera, Division Public Affairs officer of 5ID, PA based in Gamu, said Marayag is part of the 501st Infantry Brigade’s 21st Infantry Battalion based in Jolo, Sulu.

Marayag who is from San Guillermo, Isabela is survived by his wife, Jonalayn and two children. (MDCT/MGE/PIA 2-Isabela)
