For the first time, India took at least 40 of their country’s biggest industries in Cebu to promote possible partnerships with the local businesses under a two-day “India Business Roadshow.”

Collaboration meetings were held in the event between the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and the India Business Forum (IBF). The roadshow also featured cultural exchanges.

The India Business Roadshow was previously held in Baguio, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Ilocos Norte, and Iloilo.

The Cebu leg of the India Business Roadshow includes expert panel discussions, B2B meetings, presentations and showcasing by the participating Indian businesses, signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CCCI and IBF.

The roadshow highlighted sectors that can be a source of potential partnerships with Cebu-based businesses including agriculture, energy and infrastructure, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, IT-BPM and Innovative Tech Solutions, and Tourism.

Indian Ambassador to the Philippines Shambhu Kumaran and the IBF visited Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia at the Capitol where possible infrastructure projects were discussed for public-private partnerships with the Cebu Provincial Government.

IBF is a non-profit organization that acts as a think-tank and voice of Indian Businesses in the Philippines, as well as a focal point for engagement with interested Philippines businesses to promote India-Philippines bilateral economic relations.

Ambassador Kumaran said that the relations between the Philippines and India are now “closer than ever.”

In fact, India and the Philippines have entered a new phase in their economic relations with trade volume in surplus of US$3 billion.

On the other hand, the implementation of the eVisa system in the Philippines for Indian nationals is also expected to attract an increase in tourists from India.

Kumaran said that it will also allow the increasing number of Indian bookings for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE). (ZAG)
