300 Houses Razed in Basak Pardo Fire

Fire gutted 300 houses in Sitio Bamboo, Barangay Basak Pardo Tuesday morning, leaving hundreds of people homeless.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), who received the alarm at around 9:45 a.m., said no one was reported injured. The blaze also affected the walls of University of San Jose Recoletos Basak Campus.

Officials said this is the fourth largest fire incident this month as the whole country observes the Fire Prevention.

Cebu City Fire Marshall Rogelio Bongabong initially placed the damage at Php 600,000.

Renaldo Limbaga, president of Bamboo Laguna Homeowners Association, said about 300 houses were razed.

As firefighters were putting down the embers, another fire broke out at around 3 p.m. in Barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City.

Authorities said some 100 houses were razed down by the fire, with damage estimated to have reached Php 1.2 million.

The victims were temporarily housed in public sports complexes and schools near the fire-hit areas.
