3 Tips for Succeeding at Your New Dream Job

Published

on

Finally landed your dream job? Follow these three tips as you transition into your new role.

1. Inventive thinking. Most people resort to being quiet their first week of work — they listen, learn and digest. Do the opposite. Show you’re valuable to your team by adding insights that haven’t been voiced. By contributing to the conversation you’ll exude confidence, which in turn will give you credibility from day one.

2. Look crisp and professional. It might seem obvious to dress professionally for your new job, but each sector — and even every organization within it — varies with its dress code. Rather than show up in a suit when the attire is business casual, don’t be afraid to ask your contact at the company what the dress code is before you start. You can never go wrong with a Never Iron dress shirt from Mark’s. Throw it in the dryer when you wake up and by the time you’ve showered and shaved you’ll have a freshly pressed shirt that looks like you just picked it up from the dry cleaners.

3. Avoid Negativity. When you’re the newbie, it can be easy to fall victim to the negativity of those who’ve been working at the company for a long period of time. Don’t give in and contribute negative thoughts or feelings just to be a part of the conversation. Set the tone and be the positive reinforcement. Your colleagues will respect your ability to be diplomatic and reasonable.
