2,400 out of the many Singapore Airlines employees in Singapore and overseas are affected by the airliner’s retrenchment exercises due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The remaining 1,900 staff will be accounted for recruitment freeze and voluntary-departure schemes.

Singapore Airlines revealed that the pandemic paralyzed about 20% of their 4,300 positions.

“The airline has begun the difficult and painful process of releasing some of our staff members from their service,” a Singapore Airlines Spokesman said.

However, affected employees will still be paid in the period of their employment contract up to three months’ salary.

Meanwhile, affected employees who have been in service for 2 years or more will receive a salary for every year of service.

Singapore Airlines also guaranteed that employees who are currently assigned overseas will be given assistance to return to their respective hometowns.

Job vacancies portal have also been created to support affected staff. (MLC)
