Sleep evades you during weekdays or time flies when you have to sleep. Sleep deprivation leads to several health problems, hence it is important to get complete rest. But latest research tells you how you can prevent sleep deprivation during the week. Read on to find out.

According to Wall Street Journal, “Nobody knows how long the horizon is, probably a few nights, but studies show that recovery sleep in the short term does work,” says Dr. Winter, a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Most of us catch up on sleep on the weekends or on days off. You may feel groggy and sluggish throughout the day, but excess sleep makes you rejuvenated. During the weekend we tend to build up our sleep bank, it is helpful to either sleep in advance or catch up on sleep during the weekends.

If you know you are going to be sleep deprived in the next ten days, it is recommended that you get sufficient sleep during the days building up to it.

Dr. Winter also says that if you sleep excessively on the weekends it may give you a headache or mess up your mood. But you will reap the benefits of this excessive sleep later.

He also says that to avoid feeling sluggish and mild headaches, you should schedule 25 minutes of sleep daily, at the same time to avoid sleep deprivation. “When you schedule a short nap, your body anticipates it and slows down, without falling into a deep dream sleep,” he says.

If you have trouble sleeping, find the root cause of the problem. Also train your body to fall asleep quickly by the above methods. What you can also do is, avoid watching TV, reading or eating on your bed. Use the bed only to sleep, this will make your body intune to sleep well.
