Instagram Committed to Compete with Tiktok with New Full-Screen Test

Instagram seems committed to compete with Tiktok with its new full-screen mode which is now in the testing phase.

The social media giant is now testing a full-screen mode for its feed and also features a new navigation bar, which encourages a more interactive way of creating content on the platform.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta chairman and chief executive officer (CEO), announced that the test will arrive for some people soon.

“We want to make it easier to discover content and connect with friends. Photos are still an important part of Instagram, and we’re working on ways to improve the way they show up in a full-screen Feed too,” Zuckerberg said.

“Some people will start seeing this test soon. Excited to hear your feedback,” the Meta chairman and CEO added.

This is not the first time Instagram dipped its toes on a full-screen experience before, as the social media giant tested a design last month that was meant to highlight videos.

Instagram’s test last month, however, still featured the white bars at the top and bottom portions of the screen.

The social media giant seems to be putting more focus on video now, as Zuckerberg said that “Photos are still an important part of Instagram,” but is clearly working on ways to compete with Tiktok, currently, the world’s top downloaded app month-on-month, according to a report by Sensor Tower that shows the top 10 most downloaded apps globally in Q1 2022 from the Google Play and Apple App Store.

It seems it would only be a matter of time before Instagram shifts its gears to become a social media platform focused on video content. (GFB)
