CPADAO Holds 3-Day Training for CV Educators
To shield the youth from the jaws of illegal drugs, the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CPADAO) started the Training of Trainers on Drug Education for Curriculum Integration with teachers of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Central Visayas (CV) on Nov. 27 to 29.
Held in a hotel in Cebu City, the three-day training tackled on the integration of the CPADAO manual into the current curriculum on drug education implemented by DepEd to high school students.
“Solving the illegal drug problem is a shared responsibility. So, I urge you to help the government keep our children away from this menace by educating them about the perils that it inflicts on their lives,” Gov. Hilario P. Davide III told the participants.
With the school considered as its second home, Davide also appealed to the teachers to monitor the students and continue to guide them to the right path.
“You have a bigger role in ensuring the students will not fall into the death trap of illegal drugs,” he said.
At least 50 master teachers from the 10 school divisions in Cebu attended the seminar.
In an interview earlier, CPADAO Chief Carmen Remedios Durano said that raising the awareness of the students about the dangers of illegal drugs on a constant basis is among the effective ways to prevent them from being drawn to the vices.
The integration of drug education in the school curriculum is part of CPADAO’s SEEK program or School-based Education Enhances Knowledge on Drug Abuse aimed at thwarting the youth from the lure of illegal drugs.
Other CPADAO programs intended for the youth are Project LIFT or Linking Interest of Families and Teachers (LIFT), Project IFAD or Integrated Forces Against Drugs and Project YMAD or Youth Making a Difference.
Sylvio Sabino, DepEd 7’s Drug Education for Curriculum Integration focal person, said the training is intended not only for Cebu but also for all school divisions in Central Visayas.
“This is a regional level training but we are starting it first here in the mainland Cebu,” Sabino said.
Sabino explained that while they already have content for their drug education curriculum crafted by DepEd Central Office, the module does not contain corresponding activities to run the lessons.
“CPADAO’s manual is a complete material. All the teachers need to do is just choose the lessons they want to run and integrate in the curriculum,” he said.
Sabino went on that the training focuses on the subject areas where they can integrate the manual’s lessons developed by CPADAO.
Once they are done integrating the CPADAO’s module, the curriculum will be taught to Grade 7 to Grade 10 students, although they are also eyeing to implement it to elementary pupils, he added. (Cebu Provincial Gov’t)
