(PIA-7)— Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale told reporters here that there will be a lot of good stories to write with the hosting of Asia Pacific Economic (APEC) 2015 meetings in Cebu.

She said Cebu has the perfect ambiance for the meetings of the 21 member economies of APEC.

“Let Cebuanos claim APEC 2015 as their own,” Magpale said.

Magpale was speaking during the APEC Briefing for more than 100 participants from national and local government agencies, Cebu media, and information officers.

Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Laura del Rosario said that reporters and information officers must understand that the meetings happening in Cebu are economic in nature.

She advised reportes that knowing how to evaluate data as a media is an additional benefit in the effective coverage of the APEC meetings.

Some of the meetings in Cebu include Internet Economy, Disaster and Climate Change Businesses, Digital Economy and Fostering Micro Small and Medium Enterprises participation in the regional and global markets.

“Member economies will discuss strategies in easing business transactions and bring about structural reforms,” she said.

Del Rosario is also the chair of the APEC Senior Officials Meeting.

DFA Assistant Secretary Charles Jose also gave the “APEC History and Briefer” while APEC 2015 Media Operations Committee Ruby Jane Villaverde presented the main points in the APEC coverage.

These include accreditation, media lounge at the Bayfront Hotel, and the provision of transportation to and from the meeting areas.

PIA Director General Jose Mari Oquinena then encouraged the participants to tell stories to excite the Cebuanos in the holding of the APEC Summit.

“Excite the Cebuanos, inspire the youth and everyone, what does it mean for us to have APEC here,” Oquinena said. (rmn/fcc/PIA7-Cebu)
