Ilocos Norte to Host Tourism Officer’s Convention in October
For the first time, the province of Ilocos Norte is to host the 20th National Convention of the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) from October 2 to 5 this year.
An estimated 1,500 tourism officers from local government units (LGU) across the country are expected to attend.
According to Provincial Tourism Officer Ianree Racquel, the province had undergone an extensive process to be the host of the national convention through a signified interest, ocular inspection, and interview presentation.
“First, we signified our intent to host. There was a site inspection and interview presentation together with the tourism officers from the different municipalities,” Racquel shared.
One of the highlights of the gathering is the Pearl Awards, a recognition for the LGU with the best tourism practice.
“This will be held at Paoay Church. Also, there will be immersion tourism and we will be showcasing classic Ilocos Norte destinations as well as new and emerging destinations,” he added.
At present, the Ilocos Norte Tourism Office is in coordination with the ATOP national board for the program logistics, guest speakers, and security and accommodation plans.
For the provincial government, this is an added feat for the province after its successful hosting of the Region 1 Athletic Association Meet last March.
“We are glad to welcome you all in the province and experience the warmth and hospitality of the Ilocanos,” Senior Board Member Matthew Marcos Manotoc said.
In 2018, the province of Ilocos Norte brought home the first-place trophy in the Best Tourism-Oriented LGU category at the Pearl Awards which was held in Cagayan De Oro City. (JNPD/MJTAB PIA-1, Ilocos Norte)
