The Cebu Provincial Government has been constantly enrolling the Cebuanos in the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) to ensure the delivery of proper and free medical services in the provincial and district hospitals.

This effort has earned the Capitol a recognition from Philhealth after it was cited for “for being the second highest number of enrollment with no arrears and on time payment from 2016-2018 under the Sponsored Program.”

The award was given during the PhilHealth’s Stakeholders Recognition held at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria in Quezon City last March 18. The recognition program was part of the major highlights of the Health Care Financing Summit.

Dr. Rene Catan, chief of the Provincial Health Office, received the award in behalf of the Cebu Provincial Government.

The plaque of recognition is a proof that the Capitol has not stopped the enrollment of the Cebuanos for this program contrary to rumors that this was already discontinued by the current administration.

Catan earlier said that the fact that the Cebu Provincial Government has been providing free medical services to its constituents only proves it has a good performance to PhilHealth.

Health is the number one in the Six-Key Development Agenda of Governor Hilario P. Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes A. Magpale.

Recently, Davide admitted that running a hospital or medical facilities is hard, but he pointed out that the Provincial Government has been doing all its efforts to constantly upgrade the these health facilities and its services.

He said that for the last four years, health has been getting a big chunk of the annual budget of the Provincial Government.

Currently, there are a total of 12 district and four provincial hospitals in the Province of Cebu.
