KWF Honors Rey Valera, Rody Vera

Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) conferred the Dangal ni Balagtas to Rey Valera and Rody Vera.

“Dangal ni Balagtas is awarded to Filipino writers who have brought meaningful contribution to the enrichment of Philippine literature and arts,” KWF Chairperson Virgilio Almario said.

Valera was honored for his contribution in the field of music. His hit compositions include Tayong Dalawa, Maging Sino Ka Man, and Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko.

Writer, director and actor Vera was also recognized despite his absence during the awarding .

“I consider this award as a big challenge because it challenges me to continue what I do,” Vera said in Filipino via a video message.

Previous recipients of the award include Lamberto E. Antonio (2013), Teodoro “Teo” T. Antonio (2014), Rogelio G. Mangahas (2015), Jose “Pete” F. Lacaba (2016), Lualhati Bautista (2017), Ruth Elynia Mabanglo (2017), and Ricardo “Ricky” Lee (2018). (CLJD/MJSD-PIA 3)
