PH Skateboarding Sets Tryouts for 30th SEA Games
The search is on for skateboarders who will represent the country in the forthcoming 30th Southeast Asian Games.
Skateboarding and Roller Sports Association of the Philippines, Inc. president Monty Mendigoria on Wednesday announced the staging of regional championships starting with the Luzon leg at the Robinson’s Mall in Novaliches, Quezon City on March 23-24.
The Visayas leg will be held in Cebu City (April 6-7), followed by the Mindanao leg in General Santos City (May 25-26).
The National SEA Games qualifier is scheduled in Sta. Rosa, Laguna on August 24-25.
“We will look for the best skaters in the regionals. The top three winners from the regionals will advance to the SEA Games qualifying championship,” Mendigoria said in a press conference held at Max’s Restaurant along Roxas Blvd. in Malate, Manila.
Meanwhile, 2018 Asian Games gold medalist Margielyn Didal is expected to grace the Visayas leg to inspire the SEA Games aspirants in her home province.
The 19-year-old Didal is currently preparing for a series of tournaments to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
“We feel that Margie and the skateboarding team will become our bright lights in the 2020 Olympics, and hopefully, they can bring home our first Olympic gold medal,” said Go For Gold head, Jeremy Go, who will sponsor the regional championships.
The Philippines hopes to win most of the eight gold medals at stake in skateboarding in the SEA Games scheduled at the New Clark City in Pampanga from November 30 to December 11. The eight events are men’s and women’s game of skate, street skate, park skate, and downhill skate. (PNA)
