2.7T Women Turn Up for Women’s Summit

Over 2,700 women in Pinamungajan and Asturias joined the Women’s Summit organized by the Cebu Provincial Women’s Commission (PWC) as part of the celebration of the National Women’s Month this March.

Gov. Hilario P. Davide III and Vice Agnes A. Magpale advised members of the different women’s organizations to avail themselves of the different programs of the Capitol designed for them. They also asked the parents, particularly mothers, to bring their children to the health centers for free vaccination services.

In Pinamungajan alone, there are more than 1,000 women who attended the activity at the municipal gym last Feb. 25.

In his speech, the governor acknowledged the big role of the women in the community.

“Ang mga kababayen-an maoy kasingkasing sa balay. Mao nga tuo gyud ko dako kay mo’g papel sa inyong balay ug sa inyong komunidad,” said Davide.

The event also became the venue for the governor to ask parents to have their children vaccinated, following the increase of cases of infant or children’s deaths due to measles in the country.

“Akong gamay’ng sugyot ninyo kining bakuna sa tipdas importante kaayo…Mga ginikanan dad-a inyong anak sa district hospital or health center sa inyong lungsod,” Davide said.

The vice governor encouraged the participants to enrol in the livelihood skills training program.

“Daghan mi’g programa para sa kababayen-an nga among gi-organize aron makatudlo kami’g livelihood training program… Inyong buhaton mao ang pagpundok unya moduol sa opisina kay kami andam motagana ug pag anhi aron mohatag og livelihood training program,” she said.

This livelihood training program includes, among others, sewing and siomai-making.

Magpale encouraged parents whose children have finished high school or are now studying in college to apply for the scholarship program of the Provincial Government like the Paglaum Scholarship Program.

Pinamungajan Vice Mayor Honeylette Yapha, former Pinamungajan mayor Geraldine Yapha, Office of the Vice Governor’s consultant for barangay affairs Grecilda Sanchez and some of the town councilors also attended the event.

Vice Mayor Yapha said that she was thankful that all the members of the different women’s organization in her town came together to talk about the value of women in the society.

“Ing-ana ka importante ang nga babaye sa katilingban. Kaning pagtapok nato timailhan unsa ta kapinangga sa Probinsya sa Sugbo… Maski moingon ta babaye ra ta dako ta’g mahimo sa atong tagsatagsa ka organisasyon. Magtinabangay ta,” she said.

In Asturias, Provincial Board Member Miguel Antonio Magpale, Provincial Women’s Commission Consultant Heddah Largo and Sanchez attended the Women’s Summit on behalf of the governor and vice governor.

About 1,700 women attended the event held at the Barangay San Roque gym last March 1.

Sanchez encouraged everyone to avail themselves the programs of the Capitol.

PB Magpale, son of Vice Gov. Magpale, read the message of the vice governor where the latter acknowledged the women empowerment as a powerful tool for transformative change in the modern world.

“Women, including all of you in the rural areas, should be active drivers in bringing about transformative change and that they should also reap the fruits of development efforts,” the vice governor’s message read. “Subay sa Proclamation No. 227, and tinuig nga pagsaulog sa bulan sa kababayen-an gipahigayon aron pag-ila sa ilang dakong natampo sa paglambo sa nasud.” (Cebu Provincial Province)
