The Davao City Risk Reduction and Management Council has a reason to be proud as Davao City made it to the list of finalists for the best highly-urbanized city disaster risk reduction and management council in the Gawad Kalasag Award given by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Metro Manila last December 4.

Lyndon Ancajas, training director of the DCRRMC said it was the third time that the CDRRMC was in the winning position, twice in first place and now, a finalist.

He said the award showed that the city had a lot to improve.

Ancajas said that even then, the Emergency Response Center Central 911 bested all the cities in the country as the best government emergency response management system.

He said the city’s emergency response center already had the personnel, vehicles and equipment.

“Other local government units still come to Davao City to learn and benchmark from us. We are ahead for now, but sooner or later, it will be replicated to other LGUs,” Ancajas said.

He said that the Central 911 has been established since 2002.

Ancajas stressed it was not a one-shot deal that the Central 911 became operational which began with the training of personnel and purchase of vehicles and equipment.

“This award solidifies the drive of the city government of Davao to serve the public,” he said.

He clarified that the city is not yet a hall of famer, since it was only a finalist in the search for the Best DRRM Council.

Ancajas said that the Central 911 did not receive any cash prize since the title was only a special recognition.

“First was Quezon City, then Davao City and Angeles City were finalists,” he said.

Ancajas said there is a need to rehabilitate several equipment and infrastructure and strengthen the barangays.

He said the primary aim was to make every barangay resilient. (PIA-11)
