President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is urging Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte to expand the police motorcycle unit

“I told Inday (Sara) to learn the highway patrol to expand it a little because Davao City is becoming a little bit crowded,” Duterte told the audience during the graduation of the 248 participants of the motorcycle riding course held December 7 at Rancho Palos Verdes in Davao City.

The President said motorcycle cops would help provide immediate assistance to different parts of the city as 4-wheeled vehicles would be hampered by traffic which is now becoming common in Davao City.

He cited the importance of the motorcycle riding training in capacitating the policemen to becoming highly mobile to respond to emergencies.

The City Government of Davao recently turned over 20 brand new Kawasaki motorcycle units to the Davao City Police Office for the use of its Traffic Group. In February of this year the City gave 44 motorcycle units to the DCPO.

The finishing courses consisting of the Motorcycle Riding Course (MCRC) and Motorcycle Riding Safety Course (MRST) had 246 awardees consisting of three batches in the MCRC and one batch of the MRST. About 218 trainees came from the police, the armed forces, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penalogy, Davao City Central 911.

About 63 civilians also joined the motorcycle training. In the course, trainees acquired full understanding of driver limitations, vehicle characteristics, environmental conditions and how these driving affect safety.

The Davao City training was started in 1997, one of the graduates was former Philippine National Police chief Ronald Dela Rosa.

During the graduation rites the President surprised the best riders of the batches by promising to give them brand-new Yamaha motorcycles. (PIA/RG Alama)
