Vallehermoso Starts Supplementary Milk Feeding Program
In the last few years, Vallehermoso has been consistently on top among the municipalities with the highest cases of undernutrition in Negros Oriental and Central Visayas. Thus, the Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) under the leadership of MNC Chair and Mayor Marianne S. Gustilo launched their Supplementary Milk Feeding Program on 08 November 2018 in three priority barangays particularly Barangay Poblacion, Barangay Tagbino and Barangay Tabon.
Mayor Gustilo during the launching program gave her support to the nutrition program and challenged the program implementers to improve their current standing. Municipal Nutrition Program Coordinator, Ms Vilma S. Calago also briefed the parents of the program beneficiaries on the importance of milk feeding and its benefits to the children. Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Janelle T. Badillo was also present during the event. Prior to the launching, the team conducted a training on Supplementary Milk Feeding using carabao’s milk. Carabao’s milk was chosen among other milk as it is low in cholesterol and is high in calcium and energy content aside from it is locally available. The training capacitated the Barangay Health Workers and Barangay Nutrition Scholars and other implementers in target barangays to prepare their own milk supplement for the 120 feeding days.
