NYC to SK: Be the Leaders to Help Bring Positive Change to the Country
The National Youth Commission calls on the delegates at the first National Sangguniang Kabataan(SK) Summit here to help President Rodrigo Duterte bring positive change and development to their respective community and the country as a whole.
“The NYC organizes this SK National Summit to inspire you, the youngest elected leaders of the land, towards the vision and advocacies of President Rodrigo Duterte and become the direct partners of our president and the national government in bringing positive change to the country and in nation building,” NYC Chairperson, Undersecretary Ronald Gian Carlo Cardema told the summit participants.
NYC opened Friday at Teachers’ Camp the 2018 National SK Summit, “Tunay na Pagbabago, Itataguyod ng mga Kabataang Pilipino” with more than 100 youth leaders from all the regions in the country.
The summit aims to orient the participants on youth development planning process, access to and utilization of SK funds, implementation and monitoring of youth programs, and discussion of various best practices and other youth – related programs of other national government agencies, among others.
Cardema also encouraged the youth leaders to help the President bring the positive change he wants for the country, especially the fight against corruption and in pushing for a better political system in the country.
With the Philippines a disaster- prone country, he also stressed the important role of SK leaders in encouraging and mobilizing their fellow youth to help in disaster response.
Resource speakers for the summit are key officials from the Department of Education, Dept. of Budget and Management, Dept. of National Defense, Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources, Dangerous Drugs Board, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
The national summit is just the start of series of capability building for the country’s SK leaders towards the government goal of ensuring a new and reformed SK that will be the government’s partner for change and in nation building, Cardema said. (JDP/CCD –PIA CAR with Jam Tacwigan/SLU Intern)
Undersecretary Ronald Gian Carlo Cardema, NYC chairperson, in welcoming the SK leaders outlined that the summit is part of the continuing effort of the commission to instill the spirit of nationalism among Filipino youth.
Being the youngest elected leaders of the land and the youngest government officials in every barangay, city, municipality and provinces, Cardema also outlined the importance of Sangguniang Kabataan as direct partners of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and the national government in nation building.
