17 Arrested In Anti-Illegal Fishing Op

17 people were arrested in the “Oplan Alon” an anti-illegal fishing operation launched by Police Regional Office 7 (PRO7), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on November 10 to 11 in the towns Medellin, Daanbantayan and San Remigio.

Fishing vessels, dynamites, blasting caps, a hand grenade, a firearm, compressors, a roll of compressor hose, compressor tank, spare gears and other fishing paraphernalias were seized from the suspects during the operation.

Arrested suspects will face charges in violation of R.A. 10654, R.A. 9516 and municipal ordinances.

Police Senior Superintendent Manuel Abrugena said that the success of Oplan Alon is through the strong cooperation of different concerned agencies and civilian volunteers.

Abrugena also added that they are committed to implement environmental laws to protect and to have a sustainable and abundant food supply for Cebuanos. (Aljun S. Cainghog)
