The Cebu Provincial Government will be donating P5 million as its support fund for the creation of the Integrated Area Development Program (IADP) for Cebu’s seventh district.

On Monday, Nov. 5, Gov. Hilario P. Davide III signed a memorandum of agreement with Rep. Peter Calderon, Provincial Board Members Jerome Librando and Christopher Baricuatro, and the municipal mayors under the seventh district, sealing the stakeholders’ commitment to work together to realize a shared vision of becoming “the center of sustainable tourism in the Philippines by 2028.”

Included in the agreement is the creation of the Inter-Local Council (ILC) of Cebu’s seventh district, which will be chaired by Davide, with Calderon as the governor’s co-chairperson and another co-chairperson who will be elected by the members from among the eight mayors of the district.

The council will also have two member-representatives from the academe, two from the private sector and two from civil society/non-government organization.

A District 7 strategic roadmap will be drafted, with its main goal of increasing household income through sustainable tourism. Towns may either embark on eco-tourism, adventure tourism or agriculture tourism.

Under the agreement, the ILC will create a special management team (SMT) tasked to support the council’s operations. The team will be supervised by the offices of the seventh district PB members and the Provincial Planning and Development Office.

Among the tasks of the eight towns in the seventh district, namely, Ginatilan, Moalboal, Badian, Ronda, Malabuyoc, Alcantara, Dumanjug and Alegria, is to assign manpower, staff, transportation, venue for trainings and per diem for the staff. (Cebu Provincial Gov’t)
