To help in beefing up police visibility in towns, the Cebu Provincial Government turned over 23 patrol cars worth P23.897 million to the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) on Monday, Nov. 5.

Gov. Hilario P. Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes A. Magpale spearheaded the distribution of vehicles to police stations in 20 towns, while the remaining three units will be assigned at the CPPO headquarters.

“Since we assumed office in 2013, we and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, as well as the Provincial Board have committed to support the needs not just of the PNP but also the PDEA and AFP Central Command,” Davide said.

Every time heads of law enforcement agencies and the military visited his office, Davide said he always asked them of the kind of assistance they wanted from the Capitol.

With their new patrol cars, the governor is hopeful that the vehicles would boost the morale of the CPPO workforce. He also promised to provide additional transportation for other police stations before his second term ends in June next year.

For her part, Magpale said the assistance extended by the Cebu Provincial Government is the least it could do for the police, who have daunting task of keeping peace and order.

“The governor, I and the Provincial Board members, have long recognized the work that you have done for the people of Cebu,” the vice governor said.

OTHER ASSISTANCE

Aside from providing police vehicles, the Capitol has also been giving allowance to CPPO’s uniformed and non-uniformed personnel.

Last year, the Capitol handed over 60 sets of protective gear as requested by Senior Supt. Eric Noble, the then CPPO director.

The tactical sets include a Kevlar vest and a Kevlar helmet, all of level four protection. A type IV bulletproof can prevent penetration from rounds of AK-47 and M4 Carbine assault rifles.

Two months ago, the Cebu Provincial Government donated 1,358-square meter lot to the PNP where the headquarters of the Highway Patrol Group and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group are located.

The distribution ceremony was graced by mayors of recipient towns and police officials led by CPPO Director Manuel Abrugena, and Police Regional Office 7 Logistics Division Chief Jonathan Cabal.

“Ang aming taos pusong pasasalamat sa inyong walang sawang pagbibigay nang suporta sa Cebu Provincial Police Office,” Abrugena said.

The CPPO chief admitted that the police equipment and resources are limited and that the new Mahindra Xylo patrol cars would be of great help.

“Ang tulong na inyo pong binibigay will be reciprocated nang mas pinag-ibayong serbisyo nang inyong kapolisan. We assured that your policemen will do their best para makapanglingkod kami nang mas maayos, mas mabuti at may puso sa ating mga kababayan,” Abrugena added.

The recipient towns of the patrol cars are Daanbantayan, Minglanilla, Argao, Compostela, San Francisco, San Remigio, Santander, Tuburan, Samboan, Oslob, Medellin, Sogod, Ginatilan, Alegria, Moalboal, Badian, Ronda, Dumanjug, Alcantara and Catmon. (Cebu Provincial Gov’t)
