Nine participants from ASEAN member-states joined in this year’s Kwanhun-KPF Press Fellowship, a four week-long fellowship hosted by the Kwanhun Journalists Club and the Korea Press Foundation which started in October 15 until November 9 in Seoul, Korea.

Philippines get to send two participants, Frances Mae Macapagat of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and Divina Suson from the Philippine Daily Inquirer. They joined seven other fellows from Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.

Under the theme “Korea, Establishing Partnership with Global Community,” participants started to undergo lectures by prominent experts, engaged in intensive dialogue with renowned leaders from private and public sectors, participated in internship in Korean media and participated in the 2018 KPF Journalism Conference.

Opening the program, Korea Press Foundation Chairman Min Byung Wook said, “this will help them understand the digital journalism, learn from the Korean Press in detail and an opportunity for them to participate in the KPF Journalism Conference. The said international journalism conference will have sessions on Peace Journalism, Journalism and Trust, Technology and News Media, as well as Audience and Business.

On its first day, fellows were exposed to the Seoul Battleship Park, a facility opened in November 2017 where retired navy ships are stationed to create a complex cultural park that emphasizes the value of peace and security. They get to experience the interior of the battleship and the submarine. Participants also visited the Mapo Oil Depot Cultural Park, a symbolic landmark of urban regeneration as the city government returned the once closed down place in the era of industrialization back to the citizen as a cultural place.

Two weeks are allotted for lectures on Newspaper and Journalism in Korea, News Contents using Social Networks, Visual Content and Infographics, Mobile News Content, Application Strategy and Training Using Drone. (PIA/FGM)
