Sorsogon Celebrates Kasanggayahan Festival 2018

The provincial Government of Sorsogon will be celebrating its 124th Founding anniversary this coming Oct. 17 along with the annual “Kasanggayahan” Festival. Various activities are highlighted in the roster of 45 events for the festival.

There will be an opening mass on Oct. 17 to be followed by the unveiling of Sorsogon historical markers at the Plaza Rizal in front of the provincial capitol. A formal opening of the festivities will follow together with the opening of the trade fair expo where local pili products, other delicacies, home furnishing and wearables will be available to the public for the whole duration of the festival.

Some of the most awaited events in the Kasanggayahan Festival are the Pantomina sa Tinampo, a street dancing presentation during the Day 1 of the event, at 1:00 in the afternoon. The Pantomina, a dance indigenous to bicolanos, is being performed every year during the said festivity.

Sporting events like the 2nd National Lawn Tennis Championships shall be witnessed from Oct. 7-14. The continuation of the 2nd Kasanggayahan EnduroLite Challenge 2018 will be on Oct. 20 at Mt. Pulog, Sta. Cruz, Bacon Sorsogon while the Kasanggayahan Boxing competition shall be held on Oct. 19 in Bacon district, here.

The commemoration of the first mass celebrated in the island of Luzon during Spanish colonization to the Philippines will be celebrated during the 9am mass on Oct. 20 at Gibalon, Magallanes, Sorsogon. The Kulturang Sorsoganon Padabaon cultural night will feature the Sorsogon Bicolano cultural presentation on Oct. 23 in front of the provincial Capitol.

According to Mr. Bobby Gigantone, Provincial Tourism Officer, Sorsogon Provincial Tourism Office, this year’s theme for the Kasanggayahan Festival 2018 is “Changing Lives and Society through People empowerment and responsible Management of resources, will focus on Historical, Cultural and Sports tourism in the province. Like wise, the Sorsogon province aims to always follow MICE tourism, that is Meeting, Incentives, Conferences and Events”, he said.

Various musical presentations from both national music icons and local talents will also be witnessed during the celebration like the concert of the Silent Sanctuary and Cueshe on Oct. 20 at the Rompeolas Sorsogon; Hale band with celebrity concert on Oct. 26 and celebrity concert with Rodrigueza band on Oct. 27.

The agriculture and fishery sectors will also have big share in the festivities on their Farmers 11th Bicol Organic Agriculture congress on October 10-11, and the Fisher Folks Day with Search for Huwarang Mangingisda on Oct. 21.

The Kasanggayahan Festival in Sorsogon will finally wind up on October with a Parada Kasanggayahan, Unity and Civic Parada in the afternoon and with a fireworks display at nightime. (PIAV-MBA/Sorsogon)
