San Carlos City Cited in World’s Top 100 Destinations
San Carlos City was cited as one of the 2018 Sustainable Destinations Top 100 in an awarding ceremony in the city of Nijmegen, Netherlands.
San Carlos City was among the 60 Early Bird destinations selected in Global Sustainability Competition from out of 120 nominations coming from 40 countries worldwide before July 2018.
According to a statement from San Carlos City Information Office, the Sustainable Top 100 Team and members of the Top 100 International Committee evaluated the Green Destinations entries for the listing.
The evaluation committee was composed of 60 tourism sustainability experts.
This Top 100 initiative aims at recognizing tourism destinations that have worked hard to make a difference and take sustainability seriously in their campaigns.
San Carlos City tourism officer Philip Gerard B. Maisog received the award in behalf of the city.
“San Carlos City was considered among the alternative destinations because of its sustainable environmental practices that urged the community to participate especially in keeping up the solid waste management program of the city,” Maisog said.
Aside from its best environmental practices, the city is also known for its tourism sights including the nature inspired People’s Park, mountain resorts and the pristine beaches and diving spots of Sipaway Island, among others. (LTP/EAD-PIA6 Negros Occidental)
