Senator Grace Poe Gives Relief Goods to Typhoon-Affected Residents of Cagayan, Isabela

Senator Grace Poe personally handed relief goods to typhoon-affected residents in Cagayan and Isabela provinces on Friday, September 21.

Poe went first to Tuguegarao City in Cagayan and Cauayan City in Isabela to deliver relief packs to the victims of Typhoon Ompong in the region which benefitted at least 2, 400 residents.

“Naghihigpitan ng sinturon tayong lahat, kaya kung anuman ang maitutulong dapat ay itinutulong, lalo na nang nagkaroon ng bagyo dito sa Cagayan Valley,” said Poe.

Poe, who earlier called on the government to fast track the release of calamity funds to typhoon-damaged Cagayan Valley, said it is important for people to get back on their feet again.

“Cagayan Valley region is top producer of rice and corn and the effect of the typhoon to agriculture sector here will be felt and will greatly affect the country,” Poe said.

On nutrition

Poe, during her visit, reported to the residents of Cauayan City that schoolchildren in Cagayan Valley can benefit from the newly passed law institutionalizing feeding program in schools.

“Naipasa na namin sa senado at napirmahan na ng Presidente ang batas na libreng pananghalian sa mga public school para sa mga malnourished na bata,” Poe said.

Further, Poe said her advocacy measure—the First 1,000 Days bill—will soon become a law after the Senate ratified it last week.

“Sa mga nagbubuntis, hanggang two years old ang inyong anak, mayroon kayong dapat suporta sa bitamina, sa pagpapagamot at pagtuturo kung papaano mag-alaga ng bata sa mga barangay health centers ninyo, kasama ‘yan sa First 1,000 Days,” Poe said. (MDCT/MGE/PIA 2-Isabela)
