Security in MisOr Heightened
Government authorities have heightened security measures in the province of Misamis Oriental following a series of bombings in parts of Mindanao.
Governor Yevgeny Vincente B. Emano noted during a Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) of Misamis Oriental meeting held September 17 that the police-to-population ratio is inadequate.
He said police-to-population in the province is at 1:2,000 and 1:2,500.
The ideal ratio is at 1:500.
The governor, however, said no matter how active the police and armed forces are, without the support of the people, it would be difficult to attain lasting security for all.
Hence, he urged the public to remain vigilant and report to the police any suspicious persons or activities near them.
Misamis Oriental Provincial Police Office Director PSSupt. Rolando Destura, meanwhile, assured that police authorities are ready to implement heightened security measures, especially installation of more checkpoints along the streets to deter bad elements in the province.
Underscoring the importance of maintaining peace to tourism, the council discussed on strengthening checkpoints and establishment of more checkpoints as among the efforts to maintain peace and order in the province and neighboring cities and provinces. (eor/PIA)
