BAGUIO CITY. “I just did the best I could.”

This was the modest response of Asha Blanche Pacia after giving Cebu Province its first gold yesterday in the opening day of the Batang Pinoy National Championship.

Pacia beat Cebu Province teammate Fioinia Sedullo in their flyweight division final match to win the gold medal in the cadet category.

It was a runaway victory for the 13-year-old Pacia from the Leaton School of Toledo City, scoring 18-4.

Yesterday, the taekwondo team claimed four medals: one gold, two silver and one bronze.

The other winners were Christine Villasor (silver) and Kristine Joy Villa Carlos (bronze).

Meanwhile, the Cebu Province Futsal girls 15 and under team showed they were a force to reckon with, blanking their opponents in their first two assignments.

First, the Cebuana booters crushed Mandaluyong City, 2-0 and then pounced on the hapless Candon City of Ilocus Sur, 7-0, in their second game.

Rae Mikaella Tolentino scored two goals to power Cebu Province in their first victory.

In their second game, the Cebuanos’ offensive arsenal proved too much to handle for Candon City with six of the Cebu Province players turned in at least one goal.

Also, the Cebu Province girls basketball team opened its bid on a bright note, trouncing Tayabas, 79-54. (Cebu Provincial Government)
