Four Cebu Studes to Receive Scholarship Grant from Cabinet Spouses
Four students from Cebu Normal University (CNU) will benefit from the scholarship grant of the Du30 Cabinet Spouses Association, Inc. in the Visayas.
This after CNU officials signed today a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Cabinet spouses group represented by its Vice President and Education Committee Head Dr. Elena Pernia, Assistant Secretary Kristine Dino, and member of the Education Committee and Subcommittee on Livelihood Ruby Mamondiong.
The Cabinet spouses earlier announced that in support to the free college education law, they are granting the scholarship to two recipients from one identified state college or university each in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
However, prior to the agreement signing at CNU, Mamondiong announced that they are increasing to four the number of scholarship beneficiaries from each of the chosen school.
In Visayas, the scholarship will be for third-year students of CNU enrolled in an education-related degree program.
In Luzon, the Cabinet spouses earlier signed a MOA for the scholarship grant with Cagayan State University (CSU) for students taking up agriculture or agriculture-related degree programs.
On the other hand, in Mindanao, the selected beneficiaries are third-year students enrolled in a science or engineering degree program at Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT).
Selected recipients who fulfill the scholarship requirements will receive a one-year or two-semester grant in the amount of P50,000 per semester.
The scholarship provides housing, daily living allowance (food and transportation), books, and school supplies.
This is the first year that the Cabinet spouses group is offering the scholarship program.
“Tied along with the scholarships for support for our scholars will be support for their families should they be willing to avail of TESDA’s skills trainings services,” explained Pernia.
The Du30 Cabinet Spouses Association, Inc. is a non-stock, non-profit group, which aims to engage in social, cultural, civic, and charitable work that promote peace and unity nationwide.
“We support and advocate for initiatives and programs that focus on promoting the value of education and the culture of learning in the context of national and social development, which is why we have embarked on these scholarships that we are offering for students of state universities and colleges nationwide,” said Pernia.
CNU President Dr. Filomena Dayagbil lauded the Cabinet spouses for initiating the scholarship grant which she said would help promote inclusive growth in the country.
“The CNU administration will make sure to nurture these scholars and ensure that they finish their degrees and become part of the national development process,” said Dayagbil. (rmn/PIA7-Cebu)
