Senior Citizens Get P2,400 from DSWD 10 to Ease Impact of Train
The government’s social protection program set to ease the impacts of Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law reaches to about 5,500 senior citizens of Ozamiz City who received Php2,400 cash assistance from the Unconditional Cash Transfer (UCT) program.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) started giving out the Php2,400 cash assistance to the less-fortunate senior citizens of Ozamiz City on August 20-22 at Ramiro’s City Gym, Ozamiz City.
DSWD Field Officer Christopher Requina said the Php2,400 cash is for the entire 2018 covering Php200 per month.
He also said it was a small amount but they hope that it could help the elderlies with their daily cost of living.
One of those who received the Php2,400 pesos cash assistance was Luciana Maghinay, 79, from barangay Tinago.
She is thankful for the Php200 subsidy per month but she said it is not enough to cover the rising cost of commodities.
“Kulang ang Php200. Sa pamamalengke ko nga ang Php500 kinukulang (The Php200 is insufficient; Php500 is not even enough for groceries),” she said.
