Mrs. Thelma Chiong Storms Out of the Cinema During the Rape Scene of “Jacqueline Comes Home”

Mrs. Thelma Chiong, mother of the late Jacqueline and Marijoy Chiong, stormed out of the cinema while crying during the rape scene of the movie “Jacqueline Comes Home”.

The movie, which held its premiere night at the Cinema 1 of SM City Cebu, is loosely based on the story of the Chiong sisters’ rape-murder case.

Mr. Dionisio and Mrs. Thelma Chiong graced the premiere night of “Jacqueline Comes Home”, a biographical film on how Mrs. Chiong faced all-odds during the aftermath of the rape-murder of her daughters. The movie also depicts the events before and during the rape-murder and the suffering of Jacqueline and Marijoy.

The premiere night marked the 21st anniversary of the rape-murder, which originally happened on July 16, 1997.

Mrs. Chiong was seen to be all smiles before the movie started, and was very happy to meet some of the cast and people behind the movie. She also gave an interview to the media before the start of the movie.

As the movie reached its climax during the rape scenes, loud cries were heard inside the cinema as Mrs. Chiong stormed out of the cinema together with her husband, Mr. Dionisio Chiong, with Director Ysabelle Peach Caparas following them to offer comfort, as people looked on to her with concern.

Although the movie was classified as R-13 and did not show the rape as how it may actually have happened, it seemed to be too much for the parents to bear as they showed emotion similar to their cries from two decades ago.

Director Ysabelle Peach Caparas confirmed that prior to the premiere night, only a handful of people have seen the actual film, which did not include Dionisio and Thelma. The director also said in an interview after the screening that Mrs. Chiong was not looking at the screen during the rape scene but only listening to the audio as she could not handle viewing the sequence.
