Majority of Filipinos Disagree to Charter Change

According to a Pulse Asia Survey, on the recent moves of the government trying to amend the constitution, 67% of Filipinos rejected the idea of changing the 1987 Constitution at this time while 18% agreed and 14% said that they are undecided yet.

Pulse Asia Survey released their survey results that they conducted on July 15-21, 2018 about the recent plans for changing the 1987 Constitution from Unitary to Federalism.

30% out of the 67% that did not agree to change the constitution said that it may be amended sometime in the future while 37% said that no change should be made to the 1987 Constitution even in the future.

Only 28% of the participants in the whole country said they are in favor of Federalism. 58% participants in the Mindanao area said that they agree to the change.

62% of Filipinos said that they are not in favor for the change from unitary government to federal. 28% out of the 62% that rejected said that the changes should not happened now but sometime in the future while 34% said that changes shall never be made.

About 1,800 participants, 18 years old and above and registered voters were surveyed in a face-to-face interview. Pulse Asia’s nationwide survey has a + 2% error margin at the 95% confidence level. (Aljun Cainghog)
