Ex-Cebu Town Mayor Slapped with P30K Fine
The Sandiganbayan has ordered former Alcoy, Cebu Mayor Nicomedes delos Santos to pay a PHP30,000 fine after the anti-graft court found him guilty of 10 counts for failure to render accounts for three years.
Court records showed that from October 2007 to July 2011, the delos Santos received a total of PHP165,064 in cash advances for sports activities, travel, intelligence expenses, “Lakbay Aral”, “Aliwan Festival” and police operations.
However, the expenses for the activities were not liquidated within 30 days as required by the Commission on Audit.
During the arraignment and pre-trial, the accused, assisted by his legal counsel, expressly waived the full reading of the charges levelled against him.
He also entered a “guilty” plea.
“As a result, the accused was deemed to have admitted all the material facts alleged therein with a clear understanding of the precise nature of the crimes charged,” the Sandiganbayan said. (PNA)
