ERAP Issues Stern Warning Against Barangay Officials, Residents in Unkempt Env’t
Mayor Joseph Estrada warned barangay officials that he will file charges and cut their budget if they fail to maintain safe and clean environment in their community.
The mayor said barangay officials are liable for gross negligence and dereliction of duty if their respective communities remain dotted with garbage and the streets filled with obstruction.
Estrada personally supervised the clearing operations along R10 in Tondo on Thursday, June 21, where he reprimanded a barangay captain after finding the latter’s area of responsibility filthy, saying that the neglect could be grounds for disciplinary action, including suspension and removal from office.
Estrada has also ordered Manila Task Force Cleanup head Che Borromeo, to work double time and ensure the cleanliness in the entire city and no uncollected garbage left on the streets
“I want garbage problem solved immediately. Cleanup the entire city now,” Estrada ordered Borromeo.
He also ordered the City’s sanitary division and traffic bureau to clear out all forms of obstruction on the streets and sidewalks including illegal vendors.
The mayor also reminded the barangay officials to help the city government in the campaign and do their part in maintaining areas that have already been cleaned and cleared of obstructions.
Estrada also issued stern warning to residents who will be caught throwing garbage in the streets, canals or esteros.
“You will be dealt accordingly!” the mayor said.
Estrada expressed confidence that his warning will send a strong signal to all barangay officials and residents that they need to follow his directive to keep Manila clean and conducive place to live. (PIA-NCR)
