BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar, June 13 (PIA) – City Mayor Maria Fe Abunda hails the new katipuneros of our time, the state soldiers and the policemen.

In a message on the 120th Independence Day celebration at the city hall plaza, City Administrator Rey Dorado read her message, praising the new brand of Katipuneros on June 12, 2018 at the Borongan City Plaza.

(I want to salute the new Katipuneros of our country, our soldiers and the policemen who are on duty day and night, offering their lives in the service of our fellowmen for peace and order, for our safety from criminals.)

Policeman Mark Estrobo says that his pronouncement boosts the moral of the police.

“Maupay gad, napapansin kami.” (It is good that people recognize our efforts.)

(It is the blood of our heroes that drenched this freedom-loving land of ours.)

The Independence Day message continued, adding that despite the freedom we now enjoy, the country still has challenges threatening the independence we struggled to have, which are poverty, terrorism and criminality brought about by illegal drugs.

So that the mayor in her message challenged the people never to allow Independence Day to be just a mere celebration or become just a period in history.

She rallied all Boronganons, Estehanons to unite to fight poverty and divisiveness.

She also urged them to make the date a significant event, to mark a solid vow to never allow themselves to be conquered by foreign forces nor allow even fellow Filipinos to trample their rights and become slaves in their own shores.

(More than all these, let us remember June 12 as a decisive moment, to never allow anyone to enslave us and we will remember, not only in June 12, patriotism and nationalism.)
