The just concluded Bacolod Blockchain Initiative (B2CI) held at Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC) is projected to step up the value chain of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry especially in the countryside.

Bacolod City Councilor and ICT focal person Em Ang shared, “the activity introduces blockchain technology which has been in mainstream media because of the popularity of one of its applications known as cryptocurrency.”

Referred as the software development technology of the future, the blockchain technology initiates a new wave of internet secure sharing of data and effective integration of data among processes.

At present, B2CI is developing programs to integrate blockchain learning and certification to the academic curriculum in the country. Further, it is bent on helping Bacolod to poise as an investment destination for ICT-based companies.

The B2CI team is comprised of Randy Knutson, Jason Tuason and Gail Macapagal of DynaQuest Technology Services, Daniel Adams and Chris Thompson of Ethereum World, Hitesh Parekh, Angela Sunga, Miguel de la Rosa of Global Webforce and John Dave Duenas, Chief Executive Officer of local start-up HYbrain and president of the Bacolod – Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology (BNeFIT).

Meanwhile, the BNeFIT is exploring the possibility of adopting the blockchain technology when Ethereum World, a blockchain integrator company based in Singapore, showed interest of introducing the technology in Bacolod.

To date, the United States of America and the United Arab Emirates are the only countries that have included blockchain technology in their respective educational systems. (LTP/LML/PIA6 Negros Occidental)
