Davide to PBMLP: Make Good Governance as Center in Public Service
With the various functions they have to dabble as public servants, board members should make good governance as the cornerstone in their efforts to help their constituents, said Gov. Hilario P. Davide III in his message to the Provincial Board Members League of the Philippines (PBMLP) during the Governor’s Night on Wednesday, April 25.
In his speech read by Cebu Provincial Board (PB) Member Miguel Antonio Magpale, chairperson of PBMLP for Region 7 (Central Visayas), Davide said it is necessary for PB members to revisit their duties and functions and get a good picture of how far they have come in achieving their goals.
“Your role broadly covers a range of legislative and functional duties, but it is good governance that underpins all of these. It is good governance that should always underpins all your endeavors as public servants. And I think that it is simply the most important point you would have to remember throughout this gathering as your guiding principle,” said Davide.
The governor said that even if the PB members are representing their districts, they must serve the best interest of the whole province in identifying the strategic directions of their legislative duties and in crafting overall provincial plans for long-term goals.
Aside from being an occasion to strengthen the bond among the league members, Davide believes that the convention was an excellent platform for enhancing their knowledge through sharing of ideas and best practices.
The 28th National Convention of the BMLP ran from April 24 to 26 and attracted more than 300 PB members from all over the country.
Nonito Llanos III, vice president for Mindanao, extended his gratitude to the Cebu PB for the warm welcome and assistance in organizing the annual gathering.
Several forums and lectures were held during the three-day affair, including disaster preparedness and risk reduction, which was discussed by Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Office chief Baltazar Tribunalo Jr. National issues were also tackled, such as Dutertenomics, Charter Change, Enhancement of Regional Alliance Partnership, among others.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque graced the PBMLP where he talked about policy updates and projects of President Rodrigo Duterte, such as the war against illegal drugs, health, federalism and barangay elections.
The other Cebu PB members who were present during the Governor’s Night were Celestino Martinez III, Jerome Librando, Jude Thaddeus Durano-Sybico, Early Tidy Oyas, Christopher Baricuatro, Victoria Corominas-Toribio, Horacio Franco and Edsel Galeos. (Cebu Provincial Gov’t)
