Brgy Volunteers Told: Help Prevent Fraternities Recruiting Minors

Gov. Hilario P. Davide III urged barangay personnel to help monitor fraternities reportedly recruiting minors in some towns and cities of the province.

“I’m alarmed by reports that these minors were allegedly compelled by frat men to commit unlawful acts. Please help us monitor the activities of the fraternities and report immediately to the authorities if you find out they are recruiting minors,” Davide said during the distribution of cash incentives to barangay workers in Sibonga town and Carcar City last week.

Last April 4, three frat men were nabbed by police in Barangay Simala in Sibonga allegedly forcing two girls, aged 11 and 12, to use shabu.

Davide said fraternities enlisting minors is not only a problem of Sibonga and Carcar City but also in other towns as well.

In fact, the governor said, a principal of Badian school also sought help from him, concerning fraternities recruiting high school students.

“Nahadlok ko nga mo-kuyanap unya kini maong ato ning pakgangon samtang sayo pa,” he said.

The distribution of at least P2.4 million in cash incentives saw 1,320 barangay workers in Sibonga and Carcar City going home with big smiles.

Those who received their performance bonus include daycare workers, nutrition scholars, health workers, tanods and members of the Lupong Tagapamayapa.

Joining Davide during the distribution were Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, Provincial Board Member Raul Bacaltos, as well as municipal and city officials of Sibonga and Carcar led by Mayor Caroline Bacaltos and Mayor Nice Apura.

Davide and Magpale thanked the barangay volunteers for their valuable role in delivering vital programs of the Capitol, particularly in the upland villages. (Kelvin Cañizares)
