Over P20 million worth of infrastructure projects was turned over last Tuesday, April 3 by the Provincial Government to six upland barangays in Dumanjug town, south Cebu.

Gov. Hilario P. Davide III led the turnover of P20.018 million worth of roads, schools and day care centers. With him were 7th district Rep. Peter John Calderon, Provincial Board member Christopher Baricuatro, and Dumanjug mayor Rene Asentista.

“Sila man gud ang layo sa Poblacion, layo sa sentro. We know nga kasagaran sa problems gyud sa mga schools lack of classrooms and most of these schools are in the barangays nga layo sa sentro,” said Davide.

The officials first turned over the two-classroom building worth P2.1 million in Tubod-Dugoan Elementary School. Barangay Tubod-Dugoan is 15 kilometers away from Dumanjug proper.

Davide’s convoy then proceeded to Balaygtiki Elementary school for the timely turnover of a two-classroom building worth P1.98 million since the school was having its graduation ceremony.

After which, the officials travelled further up in the mountains to formally open the P13.96 million concrete road, stretching from Barangays Ylaya to Kantangkas to Pawa.

In the highlands, Davide and the officials also turned over a day care center worth P715,239 in Barangay Bullogan; another one in Barangay Kantangkas worth P730,150; and another one in in Barangay Cotcoton worth P538,798.

“Akong paningkamutan nga mapun-an og classrooms ang atong kabarangayan,” said Davide as he addressed the students and teachers in the schools he visited.

Just recently, Davide led the formal turnover of school buildings in Catmon town with a total cost of P11.694 million.

This included a three-classroom building worth P2.837 million in Cabungaan Elementary School in Barangay Cabungaan, which is a joint undertaking of the Capitol with the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. and the local government unit of Catmon.

The distributed infrastructure also included a P8.857 million worth newly restored 10-classroom Gabaldon building inside Catmon Integrated School.

Catmon Municipal planning and development office (MPDO) head Layla Colonia said they are preparing for the rehabilitation of two national school buildings in Barangay Tinabyonan and Agsuwaw.

The projects’ initial cost is at P2.8 million for each three-classroom school building, but may increase due to the rising cost of construction materials.

The distribution of the infrastructure projects is part of Gov. Davide’s six-key development agenda, which includes education, infrastructure and countryside development.

The governor stressed that joint efforts with Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale have made it possible to attain inclusive growth for the whole province and to achieve his administration’s goal of “Kalambuan sa Matag Sugbuanon.”
